Remembering Steve Jobs
On Wednesday, October 5, 2011, the world mourned the passing of Steve Jobs, one of the greatest innovators of modern times. Inspiring anyone whose passion is to start a business, entrepreneurs from all sectors, including tax franchises, will continue to borrow from Jobs’ wisdom and pragmatic approach to business for years to come.
He reminded us to “think different” and that those who are willing to do so are the same few with the power to change the world.
For those pursuing franchise opportunities, or for anyone who thinks big, here are few “Jobsisms” from Entrepreneur.com you can apply to your business:
- Give clarity to why you do what you do. To do this, you need a purpose, cause or belief that exists above and beyond the products or services you sell.
- Be disciplined. You must hold yourself and your people accountable to a defined set of guiding principles or values.
- Be consistent in what you do. Everything you say and do must prove what you believe. Every product that Apple made, all their marketing always communicated the same message: Think Different.
Remembering Steve Jobs, here are a few quotes from some of the most influential entrepreneurs in business today:
Bill Gates, founder of Apple rival Microsoft: “The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come. “For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it's been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.”
Mark Cuban, Internet entrepreneur and billionaire: “He was a once-in-a-generation mind. His ability to understand and translate pop culture was second to none. He will be missed.”
Guy Kawasaki, entrepreneur, venture capitalist and former Apple chief evangelist: “He changed the world - my world, your world, the entire world. His words to live by: ‘There must be a better way.’
AOL co-founder Steve Case: “I feel honored to have known Steve Jobs. He was the most innovative entrepreneur of our generation. His legacy will live on for the ages.”
Google co-founder Sergey Brin: “From the earliest days of Google, whenever Larry and I sought inspiration for vision and leadership, we needed to look no farther than Cupertino. Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the Macbook I am writing this on right now). And I have witnessed it in person the few times we have met.”
With Apple, Jobs did something that all entrepreneurs interested in small business opportunities strive to achieve. He created not just a product but gave it an identity that personifies a set of values and beliefs. Its consumer base is unarguably some of the most passionate buyers in the market. They attach Apple stickers to their car bumpers to let everyone know what they believe. They defend Apple’s products as if defending their own family. They own not just one Apple product but adorn at least another two or three in their electronic artillery. They are Macs—and never PCs—to their core.
