When individuals are preparing to invest in a franchise opportunity, they'll be tasked with a number of jobs, from financing the business to acquiring the necessary equipment and launching a community awareness campaign. However, no task may be so difficult or important as finding the right workers to staff the unit.

Despite a high unemployment rate - the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics recently reported the number of jobless workers reached 9.2 percent in June - business owners are still having trouble finding the talent they need to make their units a success.

In a recent survey by workforce solutions provider ManpowerGroup, 52 percent of businesses reported having difficulty when trying to find and hire qualified individuals - an increase of 14 percent from 2010 and the highest U.S. percentage in six years.

"Although the unemployment rate remains elevated, at the same time we know employers are continuing to find it difficult to find the best talent for their businesses," said Jonas Prising, ManpowerGroup's President of the Americas. "This mismatch will increase as employment levels improve and will eventually lead to an employability crisis for firms who want to hire but can't find the right person in the right place."

Furthermore, ManpowerGroup recently noted that talent is replacing capital when it comes to determining a business' ultimate success. In January, at the World Economics Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the firm argued markets were entering the "Human Age," in which skilled individuals would be one of the greatest commodities.

However, to find the right talent, franchisees and business owners may need to revamp their recruitment process. In fact, a new hiring tool has many experts asking whether creativity may be the "new recruitment buzz word."

At the behest of a few major brands, Australian psychologist Dr. Amantha Imber made the Inventium Creative Aptitude Test, which identifies 14 key traits that contribute to creative behavior.

"Those taking the test are quizzed on topics including applying experiences to work place problems, desire to master new skills, dealing with open ended problems, trusting their intuition, self confidence in their ideas and assertiveness," a statement from Inventium said.
