Liberty Tax continues to make its mark in the $10 billion-plus tax preparation services industry as a growth-ready trusted name and a top franchise opportunity.
The nation’s third-largest tax preparation franchise has been a proactive leader throughout the pandemic, most recently extending the brand’s significant veteran’s franchise fee discount to include first responders. The incentive eases the path to business ownership for firefighters, paramedics, nurses, doctors, and law enforcement looking to join an award-winning franchise that aligns with the desire to serve their communities.
For Texas franchisees Tye and A’Lisa Brooks, the Liberty Tax ownership experience has been better than they ever imagined. Tye, a 23-year veteran of the Abilene Fire Department, was Liberty Tax’s first front-line hero to take advantage of the expanded program, which reduces the initial franchise fee from $40,000 to $25,000.
The Brooks’, who have been married for 27 years after meeting at Abilene Christian University, hit the ground running in August, purchasing an existing Liberty Tax location in A’Lisa’s Abilene hometown, along with a second territory for planned future growth.
A captain in charge of the fire department’s hazardous materials response team, Tye knows the preparation it takes to get the job done. He was drawn to Liberty Tax’s proven systems, backed by visionary leadership.
“We bought into Liberty Tax because it seemed like a good fit for us. We liked the idea of working hard for several months but having slow times of the year when we could travel and enjoy life and the profit margins were also attractive,” notes Tye. “Since becoming involved with Liberty Tax, our perspective has changed. Being on the inside, we can see that there is so much potential and that right now is an exciting time for the company.”
A’Lisa brings a wealth of accounting, sales, and marketing experience to her new entrepreneurial role, spending the past three years with a firm specializing in non-profit, city, and county audits across Texas. The long-time corporate executive, and mother of three, values the freedom, flexibility, and control that the Liberty Tax franchise provides.
“I like the idea that I am as successful as I choose to be. I also love that I can create my work environment and schedule,” A’Lisa says. “Freedom comes in many forms, and the ability to have the freedom to arrange my own schedule is HUGE!”
Launching a business in the middle of a pandemic hasn’t been without its challenges, says A’Lisa. Still, she says, the corporate office has been there every step of the way with strong communication and encouraging and quick support.
With a proven track record of more than 20 years of success, the brand remains future-focused and on a mission to expand small business opportunities for their franchisees in a recession-resistant industry. The brand delivers the corporate culture of support, innovation, and growth the Brooks’ were looking for—and found—in a franchise partner.
“We love being a part of Abilene and the community,” A’Lisa says. “Purchasing the franchise is allowing us to work more closely with our neighbors and give back to the city we call home.”
The Brooks’ are bullish on the future. Plans are underway to open a second store in 2022, and have also affiliated with Liberty’s partner, Revolution Financial, to offer consumer lending in the future.
“We have to get through this first tax season, but we are planning to expand our business with the many opportunities Liberty offers,” says Tye. “We have been dreaming big with this franchise.”
